Candidate declined on position
I can't say it's 'because of what was obviously a joke of an interview' but it wouldn't surprise me

I took my boss and Steve's email address down. Srossi, Kriss, don't trust any of ya'll Too late. You've all been reported to SHRM. They're planning a no-knock raid of your offices tomorrow at dawn. Better tell the plebeians what SHRM is or they may come after you for distributing hallucinogenics online...

I don't think it was the line of questioning that drove her off as much as Steve likes to 'think differently' and he has a 'different way of doing things' which makes things appear much more complicated than they are.
At the end of the day he drives more people off than he can bring in

My eyes would literally have dollar signs on them if I was asked even one of those questions, much less 12 of them. I pray that happens to me one day, I’ll be retired.

I feel like this. I got promoted 2 years ago. My unit's results are exceptional.
Steve is constantly suggesting change (to whatever he wants to do) to my boss. Even the smallest things. Things that are working just fine. Not good enough because they aren't 'his' ideas.
After two years of it I really dont care anymore if he has OCD etc. I myself am weary from it. It's my unit, I earned it and I deserve it. But I feel like I can't take another year of 'lets change to what I want'.
I guess what I am saying is I worry that 'I can't take' another year of dealing with someone else's mental illness that they aren't getting help for. I'm just going to end up screaming at him and getting fired. Sounds ridiculous. It's been TWO YEARS of being trolled by someone relatively inexperienced, hasn't paid his dues, doesn't listen at all, etc
A shift with him is fine. Its everything else.

Is he the boss' retarded son or something? After 2 years and a track record of success, it's time to have a serious meeting with your boss where you tell him that things have to change with this guy or you're leaving. If your unit is having the success you say it is, then it should be an easy decision by the boss to step in and keep this guy in line. I mean, just that recruiting e-mail should be enough to get him fired by anyone with any sense, it's such a lawsuit liability.

Srossi - your input is truly appreciated.
A few other factors - another manager out on leave.
My staff is great. Results typically attributed to them, I get the 'not alot of mistakes' top to bottom 'tip of the cap'
In terms of hiring for the open position, Steve is a liability.

Might be a weird 'that company thing'
If an argument breaks out at work. If you have a chair/seat stay in your chair/seat.
Company perceives it differently. Yes this got heated , etc but staying in your chair/seat company views as a heated discussion.
Subtle difference.

At this point I believe Steve has OCD
I'm not a doctor (obviously) but I tried to 'better myself' by checking out videos on Youtube 'working with someone with OCD" and I was shocked.
Literally every video someone comes on and describes Steve to me. Selfishness, stubborness, sabotaging others to 'gain control', refusal or ignorance with any direction even the smallest things, etc

I'm no expert on OCD, but that seems odd.

The problem with 'just leaving'
I work for a newspaper and the competitor (Philadelphia Inquirer) I have worked at before (left on excellent terms) but they aren't hiring. At all.
Secondly this newspaper (Burlington County Times) was bought out by Gannett a few years ago and they recognize my time as a part-time employee at a PA newspaper as being an ongoing 16 years.
If they were to lay me off (severance) or buy me out they would pay me one week (at current rate) for every year served. I'd be walking away from $15,000 or so if I 'quit' vs 'letting nature take it's course' (they'll get rid of me eventually)

Either he'll put "Steve" in his place to keep you happy or nature will take its course earlier and you take your money and look for a job that doesn't drive you crazy. The best time to talk to your boss is when you don't care if you're fired, I know from personal experience. You get what you want more often that way.
