I won’t dignify this by posting it as a Q&A. It’s one post by a disgrace.
Scherer:
There's been a lot of talk of what is and what isn't "wrestling journalism". This site, along with some others such as Fightful, seem to have actual sources, seem to not publish just for shock value, and are unbiased with their reports. That, in my experience, is actual journalism. There are a ton of websites that don't follow those rules and MANY times just take from other websites, such as yourselves. My question is, this site has the paid PWInsider Elite page. It seems like within minutes of you posting on your paid section, that other "wrestling news" sites repost what you rightfully charge for. Why doesn't PWInsider go after those sites as much, especially when a lot of it isn't actually credited BACK to your site? Which I would expect hurts your overall revenue.
Yep, there are a lot of scumbags out there and we are aware of them. We do what we can to force people to do the right thing and when we catch people using our Elite content, which everyone who signs up agrees to the terms of service that state it’s for their PERSONAL use, we shut them down. We shut down two such people this week alone. But, there are a lot of lowlifes out there that have no morals so it’s a battle, for sure. I wish only the worst things in life on them.

Just looking at this for the first time, I would venture to say that the first and second paragraphs were written by the same person. The writing style is virtually identical. The use of capitalized words to stress the point, the use of "which", the capitalized use of "Elite", the saturation of commas. I was looking for an example of a lack of comma while linking two independent clauses in the first paragraph. That would have been a dead giveaway since he didn't use a comma in the first sentence of the second paragraph.

I'm basically down to checking PWInsider once a week now as most info seems to pop up on my Facebook news feed stealing from Melzter (although, admittedly, some of these newz sites are full of shit and mis-quote him). PWinsider seems to have no free content anymore other than random snippets that are fairly benign and useless, and Scherer's infamous mailbag. Mike Johnson has a column up called "BREAKING DOWN THE TOP BABYFACES AND HEELS FOR WWE'S RAW BRAND", and it's behind the paywall. Why? Who the fuck cares? These things are never as insightful as the writer thinks they are.
Scherer's obsession with CM Punk/Tony Khan continues today with this "mailbag question":
Q: With all of the talk of WBD wanting CM Punk to be the focal point of the rumored Saturday show, and maybe even the main or only reason that they want it, how would react if you were CM Punk if the old problems that led to the blow up started happening again?
A: Today is fun, I get to be other people! OK, if I am CM Punk and I agree to come back and find out that the above rumors were facts, I would have a long talk with Tony Khan about how I think he lets his locker room act, leak to the press, etc. I would make it clear to Tony that if any of that stuff happens again, I am leaving. He can explain to WBD why I am gone. I would also make it clear to Tony that if that happens and WBD contacts me, I will gladly tell THEM why I am gone. Maybe then the childish stuff that happens behind the scenes far too often in AEW will come to an end.
What a ridiculous answer to a ridiculous question. Collision is NOT based purely on Punk's return. Meltzer confirmed this show is a go with or without him, it's been in the works for ages, and that's just common sense. It's like a 9 figure deal, does anyone with a shred of sense think that any network is putting that much faith in CM Punk? Instead of even addressing that before going off on TK again, he supports the incorrect rumors put forth in the question, which was probably written by himself. Then he can turn around and say, "I was just answering a question based on the premise given to me, I never said..." Blah, blah, blah. What a piece of trollish shit this guy turned out to be.

TONY KHAN BUNGLES ANOTHER BIG ANNOUNCEMENT, CLOWNS ARE SUPPOSED TO BE IN THE CIRCUS NOT REPORTING ON WRESTLING AND MORE By Dave Scherer on 5/21/2023 10:00 AM
I heard Dave Meltzer’s bizarre recounting of what transpired concerning the Punk situation on YouTube. He said he wasn’t totally sure what happened, but then said that Mike Johnson’s report on the situation was pretty close. How could he know that Mike was pretty close if he didn’t know for sure what was going on? He also said that the only people who knew what was going on were Khan, Punk and Ace and maybe one or two other people. Really? Not even Megha, the legal counsel, knew? Then he said he only knew what he knew, “because of certain people I know, that are on a certain side that never talks to me, except they do." What does that even mean?
I have to be honest, I laughed out loud when I read this. The worst thing that ever happened to Dave Meltzer was AEW coming along. It’s his kryptonite and it makes him say things like what you said above. Here’s the deal, the day Mike Johnson needs Dave Meltzer to validate what he reports is the day pigs fly and I do a tope con hilo. That may sound callous but it’s true. Mike has been ahead of this story from the start. He never wrote a “this could be the biggest day ever” for AEW column like Meltzer did (I am waiting for the follow up on that one, it will probably come out around the time Tony Khan releases his investigation findings). Mike never reported the bizarre rights fees story that many other sites did, many of whom did so as if it were a fact. We discussed their possibility but never acted like it was a done deal (and in fact, we were skeptical of the numbers being tossed about from the day inaccurate goofs started the rumors and other clowns fanned the flames). As for who else knew, Meltzer saying that just made me laugh. Sure, those three went into the old Get Smart Cone Of Silence and talked about the issue. Then when they left, they pricked their fingers and did a blood vow to keep what was said between themselves! Then they got on their scooters and went for ice cream. Jesus, what a dumb thing to say. Yeah, Punk and Steel wouldn’t talk to their wives about this subject. Tony wouldn’t talk to Megha. Yeah right. To me, the only reason to say something like that was to point the finger at one of the three, and you know that wasn’t Tony. The funning thing is, he said that and also said that he heard from people who he doesn’t talk to, but talks to. Was that one of the three you mentioned? This stuff would be comical if it wasn’t so sad and the reason I will continue to comment on it is that it makes MY industry on the whole look bad.
On another note, to his way of covering this from “sides”, doesn’t it prove it’s slanted coverage? He made a point of saying that all of the trouble makers would be put on the the Saturday show. Doesn’t that prove that he absolves The Elite, Sammy, etc. of any role in the problems that AEW has backstage?
At the end of the day, his use of the word “side” says a lot to me. His calling people who have issues with The Elite troublemakers or whatever. In the end, the truth is the truth. Everyone involved has done wrong things. Anyone credible will state that. People who act like the people that they like are totally blameless? I just laugh at their sad transparency.
Do you think there is merit to the argument that some formerly credible reporters continue to soil their reputation and report lies because they were convinced AEW would beat WWE and since it hasn’t happened they can’t admit they were wrong?
Absolutely, 100 percent I believe that there are at least two people that do that. They thought that they knew what the wrestling fans really wanted and they have to be embarrassed to be proven so badly wrong.

This is really getting sad. And Mike Johnson is better positioned to talk about this than having Scherer send himself e-mails and write as incoherently as Meltzer ever has.

A: You popped me. Now I will wait for the NEWZ site report that says, “AEW IS GETTING A GAZILLION BILLION FROM WBD!” I'm not sure how Scherer can even pretend these are e-mails anymore, because this one is obviously a conversation to himself. And he's cracking himself up.

CM PUNK BACK TO WWE, WHAT I THINK COULD SELL MORE TICKETS FOR WEMBLEY, THE INFERIORITY COMPLEX OF SOME AEW FANS AND MORE By Dave Scherer on 2023-05-24 10:00:00 You can send us questions for the PWInsider.com Q and A at pwinsider@gmail.com.
Is it time for CM Punk to reach out to Vince McMahon and make amends, plus reach out to his friends involved in the UFC (the TKO Umbrella), and tell them all, “Guys, please buy out my contract and we can all make some money together. Jacksonville and I are done!”
Therein lies the problem, he’s under contract to AEW. You can only buy out a contract if the person holding it wants to be paid off. Until Tony Khan initiates it, I don’t see WWE doing any kind of tampering do to legal reasons.
AEW's ticket sales have been fantastic for All In. I'm not being facetious or taking ANYTHING from them. After being fans for decades, we're just suddenly now going to take a promoter's word on numbers? One who is known to twist narratives, allow lies, embellishment and flat out sweep anything under the rug that even remotely makes him look bad. I don't believe this, but you know... journalism, verification and stuff is my question.
We have seen the actual sales number on independent sites that are getting the numbers from Wembley. I fully understand your hesitance to trust a promoter though. It’s a good thing to not blindly believe.
You hear the word "tribalism" thrown around a lot these days by wrestling journalists and fans. I personally believe AEW and WWE share most of the same audience. When AEW was announced, I was elated and briefly a fan of their product. Through Corny, other wrestling personality audio (and some serendipity) I was exposed to, uh, groups of influence I had always heard about yet somehow avoided, My question would be: as someone who knows/knows of and has decades of experience with fans and these groups, do you think the AEW/WWE issue is fanboys being immature? Or is it a bigger picture issue of influencers misinforming which in turns makes AEW look more hated by association even if the fan interacting isn't directly criticizing AEW? Is AEW causing themselves problems online the very way they cause it themselves backstage because of the company they keep and the tantrums TK throws?
I want to say up front that I don’t go into the bowels of the message boards/Facebook/Reddit, etc. I won’t say that everyone in those places are imbeciles, but there are enough morons there to not make it worth my time to sift through the proverbial feces to find an occasional well thought out gem. The most interaction I see is when I make the mistake of reading things on Twitter (which isn’t often for the same reason mentioned above). What I see almost entirely is this: Loudmouthed AEW fans acting like tools and WWE fans who couldn’t care less what they say. I think it comes from an inferiority complex by some AEW fans and the unrequited love, well hate, that they have for WWE fans is not reciprocated. The AEW were foolishly convinced that what they love in wrestling blows away what WWE does. They felt that all the world needed was to see their five star matches on national TV to see how wrong they were about liking WWE. As soon as they saw how great it was to just watch people perform in matches, they would bail on WWE and come over to AEW. They feel that everyone is as “smart” as they are and will understand how great Wrestler A vs. Wrestler B is. They feel who needs good storylines, we just not five star matches. Three year plus into AEW, those people have been proven wrong. WWE is blowing away AEW and I think it just makes the Five Star Match fans (TM Mike Epsenhart) angrier and nastier. It probably makes them even more upset that the WWE fans won’t take their bait when they try and antagonize them. As I have said for decades, to some fans the actual wrestling match is the least important part of the show for many fans. Some AEW fans just can’t seem to understand that, so they act out instead.
Why do AEW wrestlers want to be called demo gods, ratings draws when the only people who care are hardcore fans and those fans are fully aware of the numbers that disprove their claim PLUS can publicly post proof right on their own Tweet? Everything that roster does makes it way too easy for the average Joe to rag on them... and win.
I don’t think that they care about the average people. As I mentioned above, they market to a certain chunk of the fan base and it seems like they would rather do the things that they do now and stay where they are audience-wise than try and embrace things that would draw in fans who like more than just moves and dream matches.
A VERY prominent Twitter user posted, "Which of these matches for Omega would you most want to see in London: MJF, Okada, Ospreay or Ibushi."? So on TK and the AEW roster's back they're gonna sell ~70K tickets and 3/4 of your best insinuated options don't even work for the company. How about I want to see Kenny Omega wrestle someone from AEW and they're involved in a (hopefully) hot angle! Or am I completely nuts here?
Mike Eps and I talked about this on Saturday. It seems like at this point, they have sold the “I want to be there” tickets. At this point, I think the booking will probably sell the rest. I agree with you, I would rather see a great storyline written for Kenny that would lead to him having a match with someone who works for AEW full time. But, a lot of their fan bases, as well as their owner, live for dream matches so I wouldn’t be shocked to see Tony go with that. It’s not the wrong move, since his fan base will like that, but it may keep people who like stories from deciding to go see the show live.
Note: We heard from a few readers that Wembley Stadium has a retractable roof so if rain is in the forecast, AEW can have the roof closed for All In.

Until Tony Khan initiates it, I don’t see WWE doing any kind of tampering do to legal reasons. That's about as far as I can get in that drivel. The question is so dumb and there's no pushback on it at all. Real fans will ask real dumb questions, but if you have a "mailbag" you have to be the "journalist" and call out the stupidity, beyond throwing around legal words like "tampering" that you likely don't know the definition of. So I will answer this fake question with the real answer, "What friends in the UFC? UFC tried to make money with Punk and it ended in disaster and embarrassment for all involved. They're not going to get involved in this situation, and the sale won't even be finalized for months so they're in no position to do so if they wanted to, which they clearly don't. It's hard to believe the Punk situation would be anywhere near Endeavor's radar at this point. Plus Punk has shown no intention whatsoever in wanting to return to a WWE still led by Vince and HHH, two guys he has at least as much heat with if not more than Omega and the Bucks. He has plenty of money to sit out the rest of his contract and avoid all these headaches if he wants to."

If you look at the current PWInsider homepage, 90% of the articles are by Mike Johnson, and the only Dave Scherer byline is for his latest "Q&A". Scherer claims that he works on the "business development" side now and let's Johnson handle the newz. I find it hard to believe that the "business" side of PWInsider takes more than an hour a day. Considering that this is Scherer's full-time job (if what he's said in the past is to be believed), I really wonder what he's doing with his time. He spends his days on Twitter ranting about AEW and trolling Republicans, all with the comments turned off so no one can call him a moron. How is that promoting the business? It alienates half the population right off the bat, and then for the non-political it alienates half the wrestling fanbase. That leaves a pool of 6 people to "develop the business" between fans and advertisers. He does this podcast that is behind a paywall and there's no way his mom even listens to that. Wrestling podcasts are abundant, have real legends hosting them, and are free. Who's paying to hear Scherer rant like an unhinged 12-year old fan? If you want to hear someone bash AEW, you listen to Cornette do it in a far more entertaining way, and also talk about other stuff with real insight too. He also has decided that there's no place for blood in wrestling due to disease or something, and talks about that a lot on Twitter. I really wonder what's going on in this guy's head. As someone who has read his stuff for 25+ years and remembers him fan-boying at ECW shows while Sandman bled on him, his personality crisis these past 2 years has been bizarre. If I was KGB, I would blame the vaccine. It done somethin' to that boy's brain.

"ONE PROMINENT REPORTER"......what a douche
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
WRESTLERS ARE WAY TOUGHER THAN ME, WHY I DON’T WASTE MY TIME WITH STAR RATINGS, GUNTHER’S AWESOME AND MORE By Dave Scherer on 2023-06-11 10:00:00 You can send us questions for the PWInsider.com Q and A at pwinsider@gmail.com.
If you were Adam Cole and spent all of that time out with a head injury, would you let someone throw heavy items at your head and then fall backward through a table on the floor?
No, no I certainly would not. With that said, I would also never do that if I never had any kind of head injury. I like thinking clearly. Wrestlers are a different breed, for sure. They are way tougher than I am.
I saw one prominent reporter gave the final two matches of Double Or Nothing 4 3/4 stars for the Title match and 5 stars for the main event. I thought those ratings were ridiculously high. What did you rate them?
I don’t do star ratings. I stopped back in the 90s when I saw how ridiculous the process is. By its very nature it’s bias based for most people. If your friends are in the main event, they get five stars to some people. If someone you don’t like has the same match? Three stars! It’s ridiculous. Now, if I DID rate matches, five stars is a perfect number. There is no world that main even got anywhere close to that. The Title match was solid, but a quarter star from being a perfect match? Please, put down the damn pipe already. That’s ridiculous (and shows bias for sure).
Following up on the excellent “last shot” from Jeddah question…Is Kevin Dunn still involved, or is that way everything from a production perspective seems even better than normal (even though the last decade of the VKM-Dunn partnership delivered at times too)?
He is. Like Bruce Prichard he appears to have adapted to giving Paul Levesque what he is looking for, just as those two did for Vince McMahon.
With Roman Reigns joining the 1,000 day club, do you see GUNTHER breaking Honky Tonk Man's record for longest IC title reign?
I can't say that I do or don't see it, but I think it would be great. Gunther has been a great, believable champ. I would love to see him be the longest reigning IC champion. I have loved the dude from the first time I saw him.
I keep reading on internet wrestling sites that certain people in AEW aren't comfortable working with Ace Steele and Tony Khan just goes along with this. And in the past I've read the same thing about Thunder Rosa and Andrade. Given his past, <the rest was deleted>?
OK, first you referred to allegations against someone which may have occurred in another company that I can’t even confirm happened, so I won’t potentially smear someone here. With that said, the allegations came from outside of AEW. I would think that someone would have to happen IN AEW for someone there to have an AEW related issue with someone else.
You can send us questions for the PWInsider.com Q and A at pwinsider@gmail.com.
