Pretty great director, it's a shame. Also, Deadwood. I might have this as number one of the shows I wanted more of. Completely forgot about Deadwood. I thought the movie they did was pretty good and it tied up many loose ends. I thought Justified was a great series and ended when it should have a few years ago. This year they produced another season that took took place in Miami and Detroit. It was truly enjoyable.

For me it's V (2009) version It's on my list too, they didn't even try to resolve anything before it got cancelled, almost like they were expecting more seasons and the rug was pulled out from under at the last second.

Given their relatively short runs, there are any number of British shows that qualify. Only 12 episodes of "Fawlty Towers"? Surely that could have gone on longer, the question is how long could it have kept up that impossibly high standard? "Some Mothers Do 'Ave 'Em" is another one that put together two seasons, totalling 13 fantastic episodes, but then, after a three year hiatus, they made a third season that doesn't hold a candle to the first two (the character of Frank seemed to be a different person entirely), so maybe that would have happened to "Fawlty Towers" too. Yeah a lot of the British things from the 70s had short runs Six episode seasons was the norm for sitcoms. But plenty of them lasted many more seasons and they don't really hold up. I loved the two you mentioned and Porrodge too, which only had 2 or 3 seasons.

Surely that could have gone on longer Given that Cleese and Booth divorced between the two series, it's a miracle we got the second one. They did have a vague idea for a film, involving Basil and Sibyl going to Barcelona to visit Manuel's hotel, and would have involved a plane hijack which Basil would have taken over. Pre-VHS, a film was the main way in which you could monetize comedies, so loads of sitcoms had film-length versions - albeit many were simply three episodes stitched together rather than a fresh creation.
The thing with sitcoms in Britain is they are almost always the creation of one or two people. They don't have the sort of mass collegiate writing that US sitcoms do. So if a writer gets bored then that's it - they're not going to go on in different hands.
Porridge had 3 series and a film - which WAS a special creation, its own storyline and even continuity - plus two longer Christmas episodes, so did pretty well. The writers (Clement and la Frenais) wrote lots of other stuff - The Likely Lads and its follow-on Whatever Happened To The Likely Lads, and several series of dramdey Auf Wiedersehen Pet.

Blansky’s Beauties would have been huge if they had two more episodes to finish their story…

Monty Python Father Ted The Mary Whitehouse Experience (never even aired in re-runs)
I would like to have seen the aborted fourth season of GLOW, even though season 3 wasn't great.

At the time i figured it was going for at least one more season. They brought in Mike Donovan I mean Lars Tremont and the visitors got turned up to 11 so now the battle is in the open.

Obvious one: Police Squad. Cancelled because the station head said that it required people to watch it. American executives. Nice one. I loved The Wire, but thought the ended it perfectly. Everything had come full circle proving nothing made a damn difference. My favorite line was from Snoop in that last episode, "How my hair look?" It's cold, but when you know- then you just know. I thought Deadwood deserved more time. As Al said, "Get them whores fuckin!" The movie did tie up some loose ends, but it seemed rushed. Does anyone remember Homefront? It was about a small town after WWII. It was really good, but got cancelled after one season. The TV Guide write in vote got it saved for a second season, but I don't think it made it past that.
