To get back on track, I'll answer the original question. I think it's because the far left really fucked up with their messaging behind the "defund the police" movement. There was a window where everyone was open to police reform because even some on the right were seeing how bad the cops were, and they blew it. Some of the ideas were fine, but first of all the name was never going to fly. 99% of this country never wants to defund everything, including blacks in inner-city neighborhoods, so the smallest degree of knowing your audience and knowing how to brand would've done wonders. Then the good ideas got co-opted by Marxists like BLM and everything else does and became something unrecognizable. And making it all about race was retarded, more innocent whites than blacks are killed by cops and some of the worst cops are black and hispanic. So the right goes even more far right to combat that, and many in the middle who kept hearing stories about rising crime went in that direction too, and then the left digs in deeper and becomes even more extreme, and *presto chango* you get high levels of bootlicking that has become hero worship again. I think that's the correct answer. Normal Clinton-type policy wonk liberals may have been able to get some real change, but these radical lefties destroy anything they touch even when they start out on the right path. Now we're at a point where you have to choose between authoritarian corrupt cops or the complete chaos of the "autonomous zones" of places like Capitol Hill. Everything gets polarized to the extremes. That messaging sure helped change gun laws across the country. On 7/4 of this year Louisiana will be the 29th state that allows permit less carry.

The bootlicking is a result of Movies / TV / MSN pushing an agenda on the masses. Kids grow up being told police officers / fire fighters / soldiers are hero's. Some people never believe these things, some make up their own mind and some say ok and never challenge the notion. Instant news and social media polarize the never believe group and never challenge group and pit them against each other. One of the things I've gotten to see first hand my time here is some total pieces of human garbage disguised as soldiers that the average mope would still bootlick. Now like most, I have a general respect for servicemen, just not the fawning at all costs like they do down here. My paternal grandfather was RAF during WW2. My Maternal grandfather was in the Canadian Army during WW2 as well. My stepfather is current Canadian Army, but has seen a lot of on site shit, as he did a ton of peacekeeping missions, including Kosovo and Sudan. My wife's from Leavenworth. Most people think of it as the Federal Prison town, but you also have the Barracks at the fort. The hospital I work at, had a partner in Cushing Hospital in Leavenworth. When imprisoned soldiers from the barracks would get sick, they'd go to Cushing, then usually us if it was anything serious. When Cushing was shut down @ 4 years ago, we get almost every prisoner from the fort. I've had the displeasure of dealing with a litany of trash servicemen during that time. One of the benefits of living in Missouri is you can use Casenet, www.courts.mo.gov/ So anytime we'd get a prisoner, you were easily able to find out what he was in for. I"ve had patients who were pedo's, rapists, murderers etc..I remember one guy, he was stationed down in the Baton Rouge area. His wife was a professor at Tulane. He thought she was having an affair, so he chopped her up. Another was raping grade school kids down in Texas. So I quickly learned to disassociate the job from the person. I've seen too many though excuse the crimes as long as they were serving.
