A Rocky V video pops up on Facebook.
Then a comment that says Tommy Morrison never had HIV.
I was 13-14 years old at the time so this is the first I'm hearing about this.
He was told by a non physician he had HIV and retired in 1996. He never received official test results.
In 2006, Morrison reveals he never had HIV.
When he died in 2013, the post mortem comfirmed he never had HIV.
This is one of the craziest.things I've ever heard.

What did he die of in 2013? I honestly thought it was probably HIV-related.
That guy took some massive head shots in his boxing career. Maybe believing the person that told him he had HIV was a by product of being punched stupid.
I seriously remember him, after getting knocked out badly, bobbing and weaving as the doctor was trying to assess his condition, thinking he was still getting punches thrown at him.
You get hit that hard maybe you'll believe anything without checking.

This is the first I’m ever hearing about him not really being HIV+, but a quick Google search seems to validate this. Definitely crazy.

I'm not so sure about the info currently on Morrison's Wikipedia page. It was updated in the past week with this info, unsourced and with bad grammar. The wiki page talks about post mortem drug tests, but contemporary reports say Morrison was cremated without an autopsy being performed.

There's a good 30 for 30 on him. He had HIV. His brother or his friend said he used to inject something into his dick to stay hard. So he was fucking with an open wound basically.
The HIV drugs are so effective that when you take them your blood tests don't show that you're HIV positive. He took that to mean he didn't actually have HIV so he stopped taking the drugs. Then he got sicker and sicker and died.
That's according to the documentary.

And the Wikipedia page categorically states he did not have AIDS when they did the autopsy. So I don't know.

This makes a hell of a lot more sense than some non-doctor told him he had HIV and then doctors started treating him for HIV because some layman said so. The medicince masking the positivity seems more logical than this crazy conspiracy theory. Was it Ray Mercer that beat the fuck out of him on ESPN when Morrison was poised for a title shot? I watched it happen. I was flipping through channels and stopped on boxing for a few minutes. They said Morrison was going to fight, and I was excited to see the guy from Rocky V fight for real. Then he got pummeled unmercifully,or unmercerfully I guess.

It's hard to believe he was misdiagnosed with HIV AND then it was never picked up on again. According to the documentary he never accepted his diagnosis, never believed it and kept fucking women and potentially infecting them.

I didn’t take it as a misdiagnosis as much as a meathead getting conned from someone probably trying to sell him snake oil, and then never following up with a licensed doctor. But who knows. Although it’s all gone now, I know we had at least one (and probably several) threads on Morrison over the years on the old board and the possibility of him not actually having AIDS was never mentioned.

I do remember when he was alive he said he didn't have HIV or AIDS but it was looked at as him being deluded.
I can see perhaps where a conman was playing him. But it's not like you get one blood test and then just start taking medication. I presume the boxing commission or whatever they're called organise blood tests. I presume he also has an independent doctor(s) to take bloods. He took medication so there would have had to be further tests. And then , after some time, the HIV doesn't show up anymore and then he takes that to mean he never had it and all the tests wre false positives.
What makes no sense after that is the story that there's not a trace of it when he dies and I think I don't believe that.

Never heard he was HIV-. I imagine he took several tests because this killed his livelihood. It's odd if you knew he was a boxer and you didn't know he was HIV. It was mainstream news.
