I'm only a few episodes in, so please no spoilers while also pardon my spoiler...
Jamie Tartt is taken from Lasso's team by Manchester. Is Lasso's team a minor league, like in MLB or the NHL, or what's the story on that. Pardon my soccer ignorance, but that's the only thing I can think happened.

I did watch season one and didn't like it much. I'm going to put it down to not being in a good mood because I seem to be the only person on earth who didn't like it so I mkbnt go back to it.
I forget nearly everything from it but Lasso's team is (in the show) in the English Premier League, that top division in England and sonsistently one of the top 2 or 3 divisions in European football.
The club itself was made up for the show. The other teams in it are real clubs.
I didn't remember what you were asking about but I just searched it. That player is a Machester City player who is on loan at Ted Lassos team. Common arrangement for players to go on loan, normally for a set period of a season or half a season. The parent club can sometimes call the player back before the loan period is over. Doesn't happen that often but it can.

I don't watch it, but I understand that they start the programme near the bottom of the Premier League, i.e. the top level of English football, but facing relegation to the EFL Championship, i.e. the second tier. And it's Manchester City. This is important as there is also Manchester United.
Players move between clubs all the time - there are usually transfer fees involved (my lot, Birmingham City, was Jude Bellingham's first club and we sold him for north of £25m to Borussia Dortmund). It's one way for the smaller clubs to make money.

It's one way for the smaller clubs to make money. I saw his Dad play a fair bit in local Midlands non-league football. Was a ridiculously prolific goalscorer (if possibly a bit of a shirt collector); think he ended up having scored over 700 competitive goals by the time he retired.

You're kinda wasting your time trying to find analogies between US sports and football. They are too different. Every season there are two transfer windows, a two month one between seasons (July and August for winter August-May leagues) and a one month one in the middle of the season (January for winter leagues). During these windows any team can buy players from other teams with a value based on their skill, current contract length and potential sell-on value. Manchester City (a real world team) are one of the richest clubs in the world, and Richmond (a fictional team created for the show) are a smaller club struggling at the bottom end of the Premier League. Manchester City have the money to buy almost any player they want. I wouldn't worry about it too much, though, because the show has a realism factor of about 5% as to how English football actually works. The less you know about football, the more you will enjoy it.

Thanks for the info. I wasn't sure how a team in the Premier League could claim another team's player.

nope. No idea what it was about. I've heard "Ted Lasso is great!" and saw people proclaiming it one of the best shows around for years, every clip I'd see it actually looked like it was based in an office or something like that. Had no idea it was about soccer until this actual thread...
BTW, Apple TV isn't very good..not much going on there, I'm watching the Legendary "Monarch" show which is really good but not much else I see on there so far..

I wrote a reply earlier but it appears I didn't post it.
Severance season one was pretty good. Slow Horses Season 1 was also good. There's a show called Blackbird that is outstanding.

I just finished season one. I liked it. I like the characters. It is more like The Office than it is about soccer. It's character-driven and it happens to be about a football coach who is asked to coach soccer.

I also didn't enjoy the Office or Seinfeld so this show falls right in with those as must miss TV for me.

Ive never watched Ted Lasso but based on what i heard i was thinking a TV version of the Major league movies with a sport and country swap.

Ted Lasso the character is a fish out of water, homely and decent, and much smarter than people think.
It's been done plenty of times before. Jason Sudekis is perfect for the role.
