It's almost inconceivable, based on how great of a heel HTM would become, that Vince honestly thought this babyface pseudo-Jimmy Valiant act (which I never ever equated) would get over in the northeast.

As I’ve pointed out frequently, Vince was absolute shit when it came to gimmicks. Everyone successful came to NY with 100% of their gimmick already, and almost everyone else who Vince tried to create from scratch…well, it was an adventure for sure.

Horrible finish for a new babyface in a major market, not that HTM's style was anything to cheer for. Philly does it again with Kal Rudman allowed to off-handedly label Honky as the "Poor man's Elvis Presley". The amount of leeway given to these local announcers in this era always seemed to undercut or spoil aspects of the presentation.

I thought Rudman was playing heel announcer there, sucking up to a heel champion. That's how it came across anyway. Also Philly was behind Macho Man rather than HTM, although they switched at the ending.
The whole thing is well off-kilter - when on The Magnificent Moment, he comes across WAY more a heel than Muraco does...
"You have a friend?" "I have five or six of them."
