Rob Van Dam on CM Punk and AEW as only RVD can say it: "Punk has the biggest ego I've ever been around, and I'm not saying that in a good or bad way, depending on how you take it. But he believes he's the best in the world. I learned a long time ago that strippers are fun to date as long as they leave the gimmick on stage and don't take it home."
In the same interview, RVD said "I don't think he's real flexible in his code of ethics. I think he's always like, 'What?! Is someone offending me? Should I be offended right now?" That's his energy, and it drains you and he wears out his welcome." RVD said one of the first conversations he ever had with Punk was when he came back from his 30-day suspension after being forced to drop the ECW and WWE titles, and Punk had just assumed a position as a top guy in ECW while he was gone. He said he was gone 30 days and all of a sudden Punk went from being a nobody to telling him his first day back that he's the locker room leader now and he's calling a locker room meeting to discuss some items that are being stolen from bags and how he knows it's one of the boys. He told RVD not to worry, that he knows it's not him, and RVD was like I wasn't even here for the last month so of course it's not me, and he just thought Punk was making a fool of himself to the locker room, but it was important for him to be seen in that light and to try to lay down the law like he was a big shot right away.

I'm disappointed that the best of 7 has turned into a garbage match shit show. I would have thought that these guys could have come up with something better than hitting each other with hammers, trees and dick shots magnified by the presence of a trash can.

I would have thought that these guys could have come up with something better than hitting each other with hammers, trees and dick shots magnified by the presence of a trash can. I have a suspicion that Tony Khan is not signing off on CM Punk's contract buyout thus far while he is injured to allow Omega/Bucks time to show that they are...or aren't... trying to better the company as a whole. I think of it like the plot of The Magnificent Seven film from the 60s, where Eli Wallach is Calvera who was a bandit who is shown robbing a village in Mexico at the start, but gets run off by the hired gunmen (Steve McQueen/James Coburn/Charles Bronson/Yul Brynner etc). Eventually, Calvera returns and has a showdown. The anticipation for the return was what made accepting the Calvera role appealing to Wallach. The hired guns (The EVPS and affiliates like Hangman Page) have time to put the AEW village in a better spot...but will they? Khan's booking of these guys needs to draw some higher ratings right quick, if those are the stats he wants to see reflected in his creative role.

Apparently the reason we've not seen Miro in a long time is because Miro has been refusing to do programs where he has to put someone over. The belief is that he is just waiting out his contract until he can rejoin WWE, and this may have been his plan from the start. I guess he thought losing matches in AEW might lower his value. His wife recently said that "everyone ends up back in WWE eventually" and this didn't go unnoticed. Who knows where the truth lies in this story, and I would guess that Miro and Tony Khan both see things differently. Works for me, though, since Miro without CJ Perry is pretty much worthless since he's not a great wrestler and not a great live promo (his pre-tapes are great, admittedly). The real truth is that she fucked his AEW career by never appearing. He mentioned her in most of his promos but she never showed up, and she was the best part of his act. Imagine if you watched the Art Garfunkel Christmas Special and he kept talking about Paul Simon, but Simon never showed up. Same energy. Wouldn't matter how good the show was, you'd be disappointed in the end.

More gold from MJF:
“Merry Midmas, Poors.
This year I put my body on the line for your entertainment by competing in an overwhelming 7 matches.
My gift to you fans is to make sure not to strain myself as much in the new year, so that my reign of terror will last a lifetime.
You’re welcome.”

Some good matches on this week's episode of Elevation. Takeshita vs. Kazarian and Blake Christian vs. Dralistico were the only men's matches but both were excellent in being competitive. The rest were women's bouts and most of them were better than usual. Athena defended the ROH Women's title against Kiera Hogan and she did a tremendous sitout power bomb off the top. Shafir was largely kept out of the ring this week in her tag match with Nyla Rose. Even the tryout talents were put in good spots throughout the program.

I thought Dynamite had a pretty decent show tonight. I conveniently slept through the trios match but I saw everything else and thought it all was solid, from Ethan Page-Danielson to the Ruby/Willow vs. Tay/Anna tag, and the show-long angle with Wardlow leading to his match w/ Samoa Joe. The Acclaimed had perhaps their best video lyrically in targeting Jeff Jarrett/Jay Lethal.

The line about Jarrett's wife seems to have awoken Karen Jarrett and from the Twitter sparring going on, it looks like Karen will be involved in this angle. [sarcasm] Yay! [/sarcasm]

[/sarcasm] The rap on Jarrett was incredible and they went places I didn’t think TK would approve. I really wish that the “stealing Kurt Angle’s wife” line was just a vicious jab and not the introduction of Karen to AEW though.

AEW chose not to put it on YouTube right away but Jay Lethal doesn't escape the brunt of the Acclaimed either.

Sting gave an interview in which he said his career as a singles wrestler is over. He says he will never do another singles match. He is making plans for a permanent retirement, which he says will be a tag or 6-man involving Darby Allin, and he has a list of names he would like to see as opponents. He was highly complimentary of Darby and Tony Khan and says he's having a lot of fun, but realistically he knows he needs to wrap it up.
