Who or what do you believe on the topic of banning Tik Tok? Are you concerned over this? Should anybody be concerned about this? What kind of data is being collected? Is this a political football topic with really no impact on the country?

I think it has more to do with narrative control than anything else. I think their market penetration & algorithm is so good and effective that it is concerning to the entire government and their ability to pass future legislation. For example tik tok pushing a message to their users to contact their congressional reps and say “no to the bill”
Data collection isnt new or exclusive to Tik Tok so i dont really believe that is a major reason.
Some people are saying the criteria in the bill to force divestiture would prevent this bill from being weaponized but i feel like someone will find a work around in the future to take out an app without having to meet all of the requirements.

It’s the latest moral panic. TikTok has an overly aggressive algorithm that effectively takes control of the app from the user early on. However, the fears about the Chinese government using it to steal information and identities and so forth is largely nonsense that politicians, the media, and too many citizens focus on to avoid other more pressing but difficult issues.

There is broad bipartisan support for this latest attack on free speech, which is always the only thing that the two authoritarian sides can agree on. I am slightly allayed by the bipartisan resistance to this, as you have some strange bedfellows joining forces to try to fight this nonsense, but that side is much smaller.

I agree with this... If "they" can't control the narrative, they do not want it available to the public. At this point, I figure my info and data is all over the world with various companies and countries.
