Looks like no Texas dates. I'd like to see him again. Would also like to see Dee Snider.

2 nights ago, I saw Extreme and Livibg Colour at Austin City Limits. I’ve seen Living Colour two other times in the past two years and knew few Extreme songs other than “More Than Words” and a couple of others off of that big album they had in 1990. If this show came to NYC at this price, I probably would’ve skipped it. But I wanted to see a show at ACL so I did the backstage tour in the morning and came back at night for the concert. Extreme absolutely blew me away. Beyond all expectations. Gary Cherone is a force of nature at 62, I couldn’t believe it. He gets a bad rap for being the Van Halen singer no one cares about, but he is an amazing vocalist and performer and was flying all over the stage. Nuno Bettencourt of course has a reputation as an incredible guitarist, but watching him work live put him on a different level for me. Just a killer show and nothing felt nostalgic, they are just crushing it right now in 2024. I’m going to go home and buy their new album, there are some great songs on there that they did live. Highly recommended. And ACL is a phenomenal venue without a bad seat in the house. I wish I could’ve seen a dozen more shows there, but I’ve already moved on to San Antonio where I’m writing this literally in front of The Alamo.

Willie Nelson, Bob Dylan, and Robert Plant/Allison Krause are touring for this year’s Outlaw Music Festival. Some cities get John Mellencamp as the 3rd act instead. Willie has always been a bucket list artist for me, and there’s no way he can do this much longer. Every year seems like the last chance to see him. I’d never pay to see Dylan headline, but he’s still Dylan and this is an opportunity to finally check him off my list too. I’ve seen Plant solo twice and even not doing Zeppelin material, he’s awesome and maybe the greatest frontman of all-time. I think I have to see this one.

I like Halestorm and I’ve actually always wanted to see Hollywood Undead, but I don’t like the other 2 bands. This is in NJ for me and it’s a bit of a drive and I probably will skip it.

I’ve been meaning to write a full Texas vacation review but haven’t had the time. I’ll try to get to it today. Short answer is that we had a ton of fun, but there are pros and cons to any city. We wound up skipping Houston but did Austin, Dallas, and San Antonio.

I'll let Brodie or someone else try to sell me on this festival. I go to the MMR*B*Q Festival in Camden (right across the bridge from Philly) most years. It's a pretty chill festival, 1 stage, 8 bands. You can buy a lawn pass for like $25, sit anywhere you want for the first 4 bands (so I'm always right in front), then you have to move back to the lawn for the last 4 bands. I go to Philly with my wife and son, they do some fun kids activity, and I go to the concert by myself, which I don't mind at all. Figure $200 for one night's stay at a hotel, which increases the expense significantly. They used to have it in May and temperatures would sore to 100, but they've moved it to September the past couple of years and weather has been absolutely perfect, 65 and sunny last year.
So this year's lineup is announced, and I really need to be talked into this one. Co-headliners are The Offspring and Halestorm, which are a bit lackluster for headliners but maybe not awful. In the past, Shinedown and Disturbed have often been headliners, so this seems like a step down from that. The next 2 bands are Nothing More and P.O.D. The first 4 openers that I can sit in the front for are The Warning, Silvertide, Sleep Theory, and a local band that won a contest for a spot called Jersey Calling.
Is this a show anyone else would bother traveling to? The only one of these bands I've ever seen live before are Halestorm, but I'm obviously familiar with The Offspring and P.O.D. The rest of the lineup, I know nothing about at all. Sell me on any of these bands.

- Nothing More is fun. The lead singer is a ball of energy the entire show. They also have this stage contraption they built called "The Scorpion" Google it. - The Warning is the all girl group from Spain who did the Enter Sandman cover that Kirk Hammett liked. They also look like the are having a blast out there. - I get Sleep Theory and Sleep Token confused. A lot of people like Sleep Token, but I do not see it. - Halestorm is such a solid fun band. They were great both times I have seen them. - I would like to see Offspring for nostalgia sake, but I would not normally go to a show they would headline. This is perfect. Pay to the see them, but not really. - P.O.D. is another that I would not buy a ticket to see them, but would like to.
Honestly, I think it is a pretty good lineup and I would definitely go if it was close by.

I'm listening to some music now trying to familiarize myself with these bands. I'm on the fence. It turns out I have seen Nothing More twice though, opening for Adrenaline Mob in 2013 and Shinedown in 2015. I don't remember much about them though.

Had an opportunity to see Porno For Pyros' farewell tour last night for free at Hammerstein Ballroom. I knew exactly one song, "Pets", and I don't like that song. But hey, I figured '90s alternative rock with the Jane's Addiction guy, can't be too bad. I just didn't get it though. Very odd sound, almost performance art more than rock music. Perry Farrell is still a stoner hippie whose banter made me lose brain cells. At one point, he was talking about the environment and how he hopes the old people die so that our generation can finally inherit the earth. "Our" generation? Farrell is 64 years old and the people I were standing around in the crowd were possibly even older. At 46, I might've been the youngest one there. What do you have to be on to be that delusional? If Perry hasn't inherited the earth yet, I think he was cut out of the will. I put it right up there with among the worst concerts I've ever seen, but it was my fault to going to see a band I knew nothing about. To make matters worse, the opening act was Tigercub, who I had seen early on the bill at a festival last year and absolutely hated them, so I knew even that would be terrible. Emo garbage.

The HU have been announced as the support act for Iron Maiden, and I'm looking forward to seeing them for the first time. Heard a lot of good things.
