I updated a few things since the switch over but is just no one using this now? I can't imagine all these years of work just going to waste.

I would suspect that's the level of using this that most people not contributing results to are at. If there is something else you perceive missing, what is it?

That's me. I still peruse this forum. I assume the complaint is that it's not updated very often anymore. I'm not sure how many hardcore researchers made the jump from the old board to the new one, or are even still active in the hobby anymore. Sad to say, a lot are dead now.

The data is here to be accessed and added to at any point. I personally won't be trying to contribute as much due to time constraints. I use the material in researching for offline projects, but I'd hardly term the forum as "going to waste".

I don't think message boards are the format of choice for recording wrestling history anymore. It was Jim that made this forum work, constantly updating his records with every card added. Without such a dedicated custodian, it just becomes a long list of results, then another list of additions and corrections and it's difficult to navigate. Personally, an online database is my preferred method of both recording and viewing wrestling results. The ability to quickly cross-reference everything is now essential to my results collecting, and that's where I spend all my time. It would double my workload to also post everything here in the forum. The other thing is that there is very little of the narrative with the results here. Maybe if you have a particular territory or wrestler of interest, you could compile a record book and add in the history and the stories behind the results.
On a complete side note, if your interest is purely in results collecting, and you'd like your stuff added to wrestlingdata, send me a DM. I've been interested to see all the new cards that are still being unearthed here, but I make it a point not to cut and past others' work into the database.

I don't think message boards are the format of choice for recording wrestling history anymore. I think this is a general problem and one in which the internet has got much worse over time. Used to be that fora were the main media for exchange of information and views - which included interaction with the "subject matter" as well as historians. Leaving a trail that was discoverable on google. On another forum I frequent on another subject some decade-old threads get bumped because someone googles their grandfather and provides more details. That's not easy with twitter or facebook.
Twitter killed off a lot of that - and reddit may be the main resource otherwise, but that's nightmarish to navigate and swamped with stupidity.

Thanks for all the comments. Does anyone have the link to the old site? I'd like to look up the old info there on archive.org and group some of the old results with the newer stuff that's been discovered the past few years. I've been sharing things on FB for years but just deleted my account yesterday. I have a Twitter for my Upstate NY stuff but I have having limited characters.

This link should get you to the most recent sweep of the site that archive.org can show you. Depending on the thread, the links are found to be broken a few pages into longer topics. web.archive.org/web/20221209164654/https://sportsandwrestling.mywowbb.com/

I'm not a researcher by any means but am grateful for all of those who are. I can't begin to imagine the amount of time and energy that has been spent of the years by those compiling results and as I think Beej mentioned many didn't make it over to this board or have left us.
It was Claw's AWA results that I happened to see elsewhere that had me seek out and join this board.
I check in here periodically and whenever I do see an updated thread and I think as well as what was mentioned about how there are fewer researchers and that these types of boards are no longer as popular as they once were with other venues and mediums where results can be posted that for some areas that maybe all the results that are going to be found have been found, due to the passage of time, not that there aren't necessarily other results, they are just possibly lost to us forever.

I think this was asked in another thread but because of the size of the AWA thread on the older board and the quite obviously more compact thread on the AWA here I was wondering myself if everything from that thread had in fact managed to be copied over?

It's not more compact. Some of the individual posts here are huge and contain 50 to 100 posts from the original site.

It's probably a dying hobby. In terms of 'ports & Wrestling' the move to proboards was not good.
Lost half the members. We have no clue where 'Ron' went to. There was a guy named 'The Brute' that posted 'something' everyday.
Databases are nice but you can't interact with a database. I doubt 'research' works on Facebook, Twitter (character limit) or Discord.
Those that 'research' are getting older
Is anyone 'researching' today's wrestling? How about the past 20 years?
Less shows and less jobs in wrestling then when there were 3 thriving groups and all kinds of sub-territories.
I haven't looked in quite awhile - how is the Kayfabe forum results forum?
Great question/topic bertew as it applies to not only here
Its like the age-old 'Pro Wrestling will be dead won't exist 20 years from now .....and while fewer jobs and fewer shows .....the people innit make more money than ever' (if you can get to a certain level at least)

The problem with those of us looking for wrestling results is that we're all unsocial introverts who find it very hard to make the connections to really get all the available work collected together. Some people are also very protective of their work and just don't want it out there in the wild.
I prefer the database over the message board because of the ability to cross-check something. Add some results, and everyone's record book is instantly updated so you can see if there are any mistakes, or if anyone has been mis-identified, especially masked men.
"Is anyone 'researching' today's wrestling?" There's no need. Almost everything, and everything of any note, since the mid-90s was in newsletters and now online, and we have everything, and people are keeping up with everything that happens today. The big unknown is the period from the late 70s, when many newspapers stopped covering wrestling and promoters stopped advertising, up to the early 90s.
The KM results forum was basically killed off when S&W opened.

Beej, I was there - you alerted everybody and gave ample notice multiple times that the board was moving. The Brute was a relative newcomer over the past couple of years and it was nice to have an active poster join so recently. I think most of us are posting to a similar amount based on the new board vs old board. A few other friendly faces haven't really been active, like our buddy WongLee, I can't remember seeing guys like Freebird Ted in over a year, there were guys like Tofu Chipmunk that posted for years that simply stopped posting but still visited. Some clowns got butthurt over stupid games of chance where your best possible prize is a free pizza and they left.
So I say this - who from the "results" forum has dropped out? I mean, can somebody reach out to them with an email or something? Fact is, I only know the guys that post in the forums, I've never frequented the results forum because I don't really look up results. What I did do once was look to see the how many matches Ric Flair won after losing to Shawn Michaels at Wrestlemania. I also looked to see how many jobs Hogan did after he dropped the belt to 'Taker in 2002. And I looked to see once when Superstar Billy Graham stopped competing in the WWF. That's pretty much it.
