It's the British "lad" look. Matching tracksuits for all occasions. Drinks Grey Goose and Coke. Wears indecently tight jeans and no socks on a Friday night out. The loudest guy in every room. Because he's a London lad, he calls everyone "bruv". I'm not describing Ospreay in particular, but it's a common look in the UK. I think in America we call them “douchebags”.

But for some people, it's kind of aspirational. It's hard to explain. For some it's a pejorative, but other people proudly identify as such. This is the meme. Guaranteed the "four lads in jeans" wear tracksuits most of the week.

It’s similar to an L.A. look. Douchebags go clubbing like that whereas in NYC they wouldn’t be allowed in.

Complete nutjob at this point.
“Man, I used to really respect Forbes. I can accept WWE at $6.8B. They generate significant revenue, plus they just sold to Endeavor which proves they are a huge asset. But valuing AEW at $2B? Who wrote this thing? Crazy Uncle Dave, aka Shemp, and Bryan, aka Joe Besser?”
“He has only realized that return if someone will pay him that price. The second someone looked at the books, they would run away, quickly. It's a ridiculous conclusion from Forbes. Then again, what do I know? I am only a self-made multimillionaire.”

From twitter. A fan writes --- "Eric Bischoff, Dixie Carter, Vince McMahon, The Rock (2024) NEED I GO ON!?"
Scherer replies---- "Booger eating live in Mommy’s basement incel losers are so stupid that they forget that none of those people went on their TV and said that they were scared for their lives when they fired their top guy. What did Punk do that was worse than what happened tonight? #CleanYourOffice"

Today on PWInsider, Mike Johnson was on the mailbag. Man, he sounds like a miserable old fart. Defended himself, said he doesn't care then wrote two paragraphs to show he does indeed care, then got asked Hogan questions about "all the racist statements he made on the Gawker tape". Seriously we are still talking about this? Also, correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't it just one single statement that pissed people off? I do know that when they let him back into the WWE locker room, he tried to go around to people and offer them an apology and shake their hand, and some were ok with it and some weren't. I also remember Titus O'Neal saying something about how what he said was wrong, he knows that, and let's put it in the past - we won't be friends, but we can be co-workers. While others like Big E weren't so diplomatic and that's their right. But why print this now? Aren't we getting close to 15 years since this tape was released?

TONY KHAN GOES TOO FAR WITH THE WEINSTEIN COMMENT, WHY TONY RUSHED THE BEATDOWN, NFL-WRESTLING AND MORE By Dave Scherer on 2024-04-28 10:00:00 You can send us questions for the PWInsider.com Q and A at pwinsider@gmail.com.
What was the point of this Tony Khan beatdown angle and why rush it? They could build to this in-ring meeting with Perry and Khan and made it so it would get a rating.
Tony is a terrible booker and always rushing things but in this case he knew he was being tailed by cameras leading into the NFL draft and he wanted to have his neck brace on so he could do interviews with NFL media and totally no-sell the injury by moving his head freely. He is unreal, he really is. With that said, he could have planned this out a month ago and had it play out, but he would have to be a competent booker to do that.
Also does anyone who is not a regular viewer or doesn't know about The Punk-Perry incident even know that Perry is suspended?
Of course not. Like most stories in AEW, Tony doesn’t explain much, he just expects everyone to live on the internet and know everything that has gone on. It’s partially why his fan base keeps eroding.
Tony Khan just can't help himself, can he? He just referred to WWE as the Harvey Weinstein of professional wrestling during the NFL draft...... Is he trying to deflect all the criticism he's getting online after Dynamite? Because he's certainly seen it.
I don't know what his end game is because what he said is so ridiculous. I half wonder if he knows something about his TV deal that isn’t good and he is just acting out. I hope that isn't the case because a lot of good people work there and a lot of fans love his product. But man, he is literally impossible for me to root for. He just continually acts like a tool. He should go into hiding.
No questions at the moment but I LOVE the One Man Show format. Keep it going.
Thanks! I appreciate it and I will. It's fun for me to do. I am glad you like it.
It seems like you guys, along with many fan and football players, are fans of pro wrestling. Have either of you tried to cover both ie going to the draft, or Super Bowl media week?
I have not. I love the game, believe me, but I have my plate pretty full doing what I do here. Plus, a lot of wrestling fans don’t have any interest in football so I wouldn’t want to mix the two here.
Hope you folks are well, Q&A is my favorite part of the site. Lots to unpack from the 4/24/2024 episode of Dynamite, and I'm sure you guys have been bombarded with questions. Aside from the numerous poor decisions that made it to TV last night, one small interaction made me shake my head: During the battle royal, Will Ospreay had an exchange with Komander (who, by their rankings has 29 losses and 6 wins overall, being 1/8 this year ). Ospreay wound up on the end of a pin attempt and had to be saved by another competitor. Will is quite clearly being positioned as one of the, if not THE top stars in the company going forward. In no sane world should he need saving in a meaningless battle royal with mid-card talent or even sweating over someone like Komander. He should have been kicking everyone's asses and had a showcase outing. But yet again, more 50/50 garbage. Head scratching....Thoughts?
I will repeat myself. Tony Khan is a terrible booker. What you described is garbage booking, just like it was when Tony booked Ospreay to go about 20 minutes with Kyle Fletcher, who never wins. Of course, Tony had Swerve Strickland work way too hard to beat Fletcher too on Dynamite this week. Tony is the pits when it comes to being a booker. On another note, if you like the Q and As give the One Man Show a listen. It’s an audio version of this column.

Meltzer on twitter

Replying to @davemeltzerwon
The grind comment was unfair? Come one Dave. It's too early in the day to be this hilarious.
Dave Meltzer @davemeltzerwon I've explained that one to death. Written it as well. Please explain your viewpoint, it was a total sour grapes reaction to losing out on someone because you promised WrestleMania, less money, more dates and a worse family life and they didn't choose WrestleMania over the rest. And in both cases, they agreed to more of a travel grind than anyone in WWE has agreed to. And let's not even bring up the the work in the ring. Quote Raven 1220 @raven1220 · ----------------------------------------------- @davescherer
Translation, "Will Ospreay is my new best friend and he tells me everything. We do sleepovers together and we are going to double date to the prom (if he finds me a date)! I can't let that mean HHH speak about him!" Tony Khan is the Final Bozo. Meltzer is the SemiFinal Bozo.

It never ends... A 78 1/2 year old Vince would be a better booker for AEW..in 2024
---------- WILL OSPREAY PROVED THAT HE DIDN’T WANT TO GRIND BY ANSWERING HHH’S GENERIC STATEMENT (THE SMART PLAY CHESS, THE DIM PLAY CHECKERS), I CAN SAY POSITIVE THINGS ABOUT AEW, VINCE IS A BETTER BOOKER THAN TONY AND MORE By Dave Scherer on 2024-04-30 10:00:00 You can send us questions for the PWInsider.com Q and A at pwinsider@gmail.com.
Is there anything positive you can say about AEW?
Sure, there are a lot of great people that work there, on both sides of the camera. They deliver a product that their fan base loves. They give people a place to work. And if I am being honest, Tony Khan’s behavior gives me a lot to talk about here on the site. Whether you laugh with him or at him, it’s content.
Given the general agreement that Tony Khan is a lousy booker and is driving AEW down the proverbial crapper, who would you say would be better at handling the book?
Honestly? There are a lot of people. He’s so bad that a lot of people would be better. It’s a waste of time to pick replacements when he won’t step down.
I talked about this with a buddy of mine and we need a professional answer (Condition: the answer can't be "neither" or similar): With Vince McMahon selling Stock after Stock, who would you rather See book AEW: Tony Khan or Vince (somehow) buying his way into AEW?
Easily, Vince. He isn’t a good booker but Tony is a terrible booker.
Why is Will Ospreay mad at HHH? Didn’t Ospreay do tons of interviews saying he signed with AEW for a lighter schedule? Doesn’t logic dictate if you want to work less, you don’t want to grind?
Well yes, sane people would indeed think that way. Will talked about that very thing, for him to now get up in arms about it is comical (and leads me to believe he went to work at the right place since tantrums from adult children are part of the culture of the company). Maybe his Uncle Dave got him fired up about the comment. I have seen Old Dave spinning that yarn on social media. I don’t know what goes through the heads of adults who act like pre-teens. Here’s the best part, HHH didn’t say a thing about Will Ospreay by name. He made a general comment. Will (and his Uncle Dave) took it as a shot, which means that Will probably thinks that he doesn’t want to grind. If it wasn’t true about him, he wouldn’t react to it right? You could make a statement about Wrestling’s Dave who is out of touch and pushes his agenda as factual while never owning up to being wrong and you wouldn’t get any response from me because it doesn’t pertain to me. Did HHH mean Ospreay when me made the comment? Maybe. But he didn’t mention him by name so if he did, he once again proved much smarter he is than Will and his Uncle Dave. If he meant it that way, he got them to react like babies to something that he never actually said. That would make them children who took the bait, if that was indeed HHH’s intention. Either way, since HHH never mentioned Ospreay by name, they look like a couple of goofs.
Since I've not heard anyone else talking about this as of yet, though I'd get your opinion on it. The FTC voted to ban noncompete agreements for nearly all jobs. The pro wrestling business has had these agreements in contracts for a very long time now. It's almost ingrained and expected. Assuming it stands up in court, do you think this will hurt the business as a whole? Or will the companies find another method of achieving the same idea? Thanks for any thoughts.
It’s my understanding at this point that since WWE pays the talent over those three months where they don’t work, they will be fine. I am not a lawyer, but that is my general understanding. They aren’t forcing them to sit home and not be paid.

The second someone looked at the books, they would run away, quickly. It's a ridiculous conclusion from Forbes. Then again, what do I know? I am only a self-made multimillionaire.”
So now we are supposed to believe a dirt sheet writer telling us he's a "Self-Made Multimillionaire"? Is this guy fucking high or what? If it were even remotely true, I know of about 30 people on this board that would start dirt sheets! Even you Rossi with your bitcoin and owning half of Scranton PA (the half on the other side of the tracks), you'd be writing ANYTHING that would get you as much cash as Scherer thinks he has. This is like Pat Patterson winning the IC title in a tournament in Rio de Janeiro, or Bix going on a podcast saying that he showers regularly...complete and utter fiction!
As far as Tony Khan's books - again, he is clueless to how this works. First up, they are a private company and they can handle their business the way that they want to, as long as they are legally operating the business. Let's take it at face value - we don't know how much money he's bringing in for rights fees, and he could be burying a ton of operating costs on the ROH books so that he can lower all of his costs with AEW. Using ROH to write off things would be a good use of the asset as he can just bankrupt it if he ever needs to. But let's make an assumption that the live attendance is what drives the revenue streams...which we know full well they don't. And AEW doesn't have a huge merch line, but they have figures and belts and the like. Scherer should stick to reporting somewhat accurate scoops and his miserable get off my lawn commentary, because he sucks at pretty much everything else.

No lie, Scherer considered himself an investment guru now and gives advice on X. Now it’s entirely possible he hit on something and made money, but I’d trust Racitch over this guy any day of the week. And proving his personal finances is like discussing AEW’s books. It’s pointless. It’s all private so you can say whatever you want. Which Scherer understands when bullshitting about himself, but not when discussing AEW. I will say this though, if he made millions on an investment years ago, it explains how he can run PWInsider and pay a couple of salaries, because no way that site makes a dime.

ANYONE WHO SAYS OSPREAY-BRYAN WAS BETTER THAN ROMAN-CODY WATCHES WRESTLING FOR A DIFFERENT REASON THAT I DO, TONY KHAN’S BEAT DOWN, BAD BOOKING AND MORE By Dave Scherer on 2024-05-01 10:00:00 You can send us questions for the PWInsider.com Q and A at pwinsider@gmail.com.
I watched Dynamite and there was a match between Anna Jay and Mina Shirakawa. Mina came out like a babyface but with Mariah May so I assumed she was the heel, then Anna Jay came out and I wasn't sure if she was a heel or face but whatever. They matched up and Mina acted like a cocky heel so I guess I was supposed to cheer Anna so ok, but then Mina won clean with a technical move and celebrated with her friend. Anna jumped them after the match even though she lost fairly and then Toni Storm another heel, came out and chased Anna off before she could injure the heels which seems pretty heelish. So my question is who exactly was I supposed to root for in this match? I feel like all the participants were pretty heelish and unlikable and so I didn't care who won.
That is a question I often ask when I watch AEW TV. Tony Khan is terrible at creating a face-heel dynamic. He is just concerned with having bangers.
I know this is likely the umpteenth question about Tony Khan on Dynamite. So, I’m not really asking a question, but just offering a story/opinion on the matter. My wife is not a wrestling fan. She is aware of WWE and has a passing familiarity with a handful of wrestlers. She has no idea about anything like workrate or what goes into making a good match or segment. I showed her the final segment from Dynamite and once he was punched in the stomach, she looked at me and said “ This is embarrassing “. She further commented what a dork Tony looked like, and also thought the Bucks looked like a couple of idiots. I didn’t give her any background on the segment and she had no idea who the wrestlers were. The whole thing got her curious and she started Googling the Khan family, and she was laughing at his appearance every time she pulled up a pic of him. She then asked me “ Why is he on TV ? “. As a lifetime fan, it’s easy for me to say how bad the segment was. It’s very telling for a non-fan such as my wife to see how bad it was. Very telling.
My wife is more of a fan than yours but she is also very discerning. When it’s good stuff, she wants to see happens. When it’s bad? She mocks it. She said the same kinds of things about the Khan segment as your wife did. He comes off like such a goof.
Awesome site! Thoughts on some people (including the famous reporter) who called Bryan vs Ospreay the greatest wrestling match in US history? Would you say it is? I personally thought it was a great match but there was no story behind the match so I was not invested a lot in the ending/outcome, as opposed to Cody vs Roman or Taker vs Shawn/HHH in Mania (just to name a few).
I am with you. Good old Uncle Dave, storylines don’t mean a thing to him. Character development? The same. There is no way in hell any learned wrestling fan or reporter would make the statement that he did in my opinion. There is a difference between a great match, just because, and a great match like Cody vs. Roman that was built too masterfully with an amazing story. To fans like old Uncle Dave, for whatever reason, stories don’t matter. They look at wrestling like a figure skating, where they score it on points based on how many moves are done. Emotions don’t matter either to them either, I guess because they are robotic types of people.
Nobody liked Vince's stifling creativity, but now we are seeing the other end of the spectrum with some AEW wrestlers apparently having unchecked created control - and it's not pretty! Let's use Edge as an example. Assuming Edge is using whatever creative control he has to "help new talents", as he has previously stated was one of his goals, Edge needs some guardrails ASAP. While Edge's match with Penta was entertaining, Edge allowed Penta to dominate about 90% of the match; making himself look very weak and ebbing his star power in the process. Then the following week, Willow and Mercedes Mone SAVE Edge from a Brody and Julia Hart attack. (Imagine Trish or Lita saving Austin from a Corporation beatdown in '98.) AEW Edge would have never gotten over in WWE with this incarnation of his character. Dishonorable mention goes to Will Ospreay for his 20-year-old clapback at HHH. Do you think AEW's penchant for giving too much creative control to star wrestlers is a significant problem that needs to be addressed?
I think the entire creative process in AEW needs to be addressed, for sure. It’s by far the worst part of the product and the reason why it’s languishing with everyone except the core of its base, like Uncle Dave. Many wrestlers need to be reigned in, for sure. At least in Edge’s case he is trying to give, unlike Chris Jericho.
Is Cody really an 'undisputed' WWE champion if Damian Priest holds the World Heavyweight title?
If WWE says he is, he is. I get your point but this is wrestling, they get creative license in my opinion.
