I've been rewatching the start of Nitro and I've forgotten so much of it and watching it now is like looking in a time capsule. I'm through Road Wild currently.
The convoluted storylines pre NWO
Savage-Hogan-Sting-Luger all hating each other.
The world title changing hands 287 times in. Like every 3-4 weeks was a new champ
Hogan-Giant-Savage-Flair-Savage-Flair-Giant-Hogan in like 9 months.
A face Sting tagging with a heel Luger ad winning the tag titles.
Dungeon of Doom-4 Horsemen hating each other and Hulk Hogan simultaneously.
Familiar faces popping in and out of the picture.
The Powers of Pain under masks as the Super Assassins for a few weeks in late 1995.
Paul Orndorff's career basically coming to an end in an angle with Brian Pillman and the 4 Horsemen.
The random 80s monster heels in the Dungeon of Doom. One Man Gang, Kamala, Zeus, Jeep Swenson.
The Rock and Roll Express getting a run in the Summer of 96
The surrealism of the start of the NWO.
All of this foreign, unknown talent carrying the undercarriage. Misterio, Malenko, Psicosis, etc.

I need to go back and watch this.
I thought the Sting/Luger stuff was fantastic though. Luger playing heel behind his back but genuinely conflicted and helping Sting when need be. That’s a great little angle. I don’t recall if they really blew it off in one final moment though, like Luger had to make a final decision to stay with Hart or to side with Sting, or if it just fizzled out.
I genuinely don’t remember the PoP as the masked Super Ds.

Jimmy Hart honored his "agreement" with Luger and stopped "managing" him some time after Uncensored. Luger and Sting went on with Luger playing heel to Sting's face. At Slamboree, Stung fought The Giant for the title with Luger, handcuffed to Jimmy Hart. Luger.and Hart fought over Hart's megaphone with hit Sting and he lost. Luger got the next shot at the Giant but he missed the match like 3 weeks in a row because of "bad luck" where everyone was questioning him chickening out. Finally, Luger goes through with the match and The Giant puts him through a table, cementing his face turn. This happened post Hall showing up but pre Nash I believe, so by the time the GAB happened and Hall made the challenge, Luger was a full fledged face and was on the short list of wrestlers to challenge the Outsiders and a mystery 3rd guy. They had 6 names to choose from, and they chose Macho, Sting and Luger who were all in lockstep at this point. The Super Assassins (sorry not Destroyers) were only around 3 weeks because Warlord got hurt and subsequently retired, and Barbarian was repackaged into the Faces of Fear with Meng. They were managed by Col Robert Parker.

Sting would come out slapping hands with the fans and Luger would follow behind heeling the fans, then Sting would turn around and Luger would put on a fake smile and slap hands too. It was some good stuff.

And usually Luger was carrying both belts. Plus Luger not doing the usual thing of stabbing Sting in the back meant that there was some imagination in the booking - not every teased break needs to end in one.

Week after week you saw ads for "Blood Runs Cold.....Glacier.....coming soon." When he finally did debut, he was baried on WCWSN and syndicated TV.

I’ve been doing a rewatch myself also, adding in Raw and PPVs from both WWF and WCW. I’m in late ‘95 and reallyenjoying it. The Macho/Flair stuff from Starrcade and Nitro I remember being really good and look forward to getting to that point.

Yeah it was a wild period. A fun period. Standing up to the WWF. I wish it was still around.
