Duke Snider on the Giants. I was on same softball team with his son. He told me he was from New York and came out here when his dad was traded from Mets to Giants. I asked who's his dad , he said Duke Snider. I replied "he never was on the Giants". Lol

Riger Maris as a member of the Cardinals. I think Maris was a star player on the Cards for several years and helped them win a World Series (if he wasn't MVP of that Series, he was a top performer), so this one is not very surprising. Maris was at the end of his career, but could still play and had all the pressure lifted off of him once he was out of NY. If his heart was still in it, he had another few seasons left in him talent-wise. IIRC he retired young. A shame because 2 more solid seasons and he probably is in the HOF, but that was the furthest thing from his mind at the time.

When he came to the Cardinals in '67 he got a Budweiser distributorship from the Busch family. He played in '68, but found that he was making more money selling Budweiser so he retired to run the distributorship. When he died in 1985, he was worth more than pretty much 90% of his contemporaries, and I think the Maris family owned a piece of Anheuser Busch right up until inBev bought them in 2008.

I remember most of these ballplayers playing for the teams in question. What I had no idea of was that Grady Sizemore once played for the Red Sox.

Dave Concepcion with the Angels. He never played in a game. I think he came in for Spring Training but retired.
